St. James students in grades 5 - 8 can participate in the Parochial Music Organization (PMO). Students learn to play a band instrument and/or sing in a choir. Band lessons are taught weekly at St. James. The band also meets one night during the week. Choir meets in the evening. In addition to the obvious musical education PMO band provides, it also gives St. James' students the opportunity to meet students from other Quincy parochial schools!
PB&J's is the name of our extracurricular St. James choir and includes students in grades 3 - 8. Our choir sings a variety of music including sacred, liturgical, pop, and classical. In all we do we praise our loving God through song and this is where our name comes from...Praise Be to Jesus Singers. We practice Mondays after school and sing at different venues around the Quincy community and in our local LCMS congregations.
Music and Art Class
All grades attend a general music class and art class weekly as part of the school curriculum.
St. James places importance in providing our students experiences in a variety of fine arts throughout each school year. Our aim is to expose them, open their minds to the wide range of arts, and encourage them to further explore the arts for themselves. Examples of fine arts our students have experienced in past years include: vocal and instrumental music, storytellers, calligraphy workshops, performances or workshops by the Quincy Community Theatre, and field trips to the theatre for plays or ballets (The Nutcracker).
