Mrs. Mohr's Classroom
Welcome to Third Grade at St. James Lutheran School. My name is Renita Mohr. My goal as classroom teacher is to provide a Christ-centered environment where students can grow academically as well as spiritually.
At St. James, we have the privilege of studying God’s Word and learning of His love. Third grade is the year that many students receive their very first Bible. In class, students are taught how to find Bible passages by book, chapter, and verse. The children even learn to recite the names of all 66 books of the Bible.
One thing unique about third grade is that students are making the transition from learning to read to reading to learn. In reading, we work on developing reading comprehension skills, building vocabulary, and improving fluency. In math, we work on mastering math facts including multiplication and division facts. In Social Studies, we study communities in the United States, both past and present. In Science, we explore the wonderful world God created. Students also study English and cursive handwriting. They participate in art, music, P.E., and computer, and they go on several field trips during the year.
I personally enjoy music and sign language, so I incorporate them into my teaching. Songs help students memorize math facts, English rules, and Bible verses. Sign language helps to engage students in a lesson while teaching them about another culture.
