Welcome, Beliefs, Mission, and Vision

Welcome to St. James Lutheran School. We hope that we can partner together in the important job of educating your child.

We commend you as parents who take seriously the responsibility of educating your child. Christian education has far-reaching implications for the total family.  God has given the primary responsibility of nurturing children to parents. The church has the privilege of assisting and supporting parents in that task. God promises in Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.”

St. James Lutheran School gives a thorough training in all subjects, for God desires His children to develop and use all of their God-given abilities. We are proud of the academic excellence achieved by our students. What a child learns academically, spiritually, emotionally, socially, and physically is important. The child's relationship with God, parents, teachers, administrators, and other students makes a significant impact on a child's mind, attitude, and lifestyle. It is the conviction of St. James Lutheran School that if God is to be in our living, then He must also be in our learning.

Christian Beliefs

Christian beliefs, as understood and taught in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod (LC-MS), influence everything that is done at St. James.  Christian instruction is not only carried out formally, but is integrated into the study of every subject.  Students are immersed in a Christian atmosphere, surrounded by teachers, administrators, pastors, and staff members who strive to have their very presence be a testimony to the Christian faith and the distinctively Lutheran manner of expressing that faith.

We know that we are all sinners who are in need of repentance and reconciliation with God and one another.  We acknowledge that Jesus died and rose to forgive all sins, and as a result, we must deal with sins in a Scriptural manner of repentance and forgiveness in order to preserve the Christian community.

At St. James Lutheran Church and School we expect that the families of our students will not act in a way that is contrary to, or disrupts the teachings of this school in matters of religious faith and personal conduct.  Family members are not required to believe or confess the teachings or beliefs of the LC-MS.  However, family members may not act in a way that may negatively affect the school, promote beliefs that are contrary to those of the LC-MS, or otherwise weaken or undermine the Christian atmosphere at the school.

Mission Statement

The mission of St. James Lutheran Church and School is to help individuals “See and Share Jesus.”  In our mission to "See and Share Jesus", St. James encourages our children to participate in a wide array of service.

Students attend a chapel worship service each week.  Any offerings collected during these services go to designated persons or organizations.  We include a variety of local, national, and world offering donations each year to encourage our students to look close to home, but also realize that we are connected in this world, and can have an impact on those both close to home as well as far away.  In the 2015-16 school year, offerings have included:

  • $210 sent to Operation Christmas Child, in addition to a donation of 93 packed shoeboxes for children around the world

  • St. James students brought over 275 non-perishable food items for use in filling Christmas baskets and the food pantry at the Lutheran Church of St. John here in Quincy

  • With our first trimester offerings, we were able to purchase two hen/chicks, one goat, three piglets, and one sheep through Lutheran World Relief.  LWR helps support life-changing mission to end poverty , injustice and human suffering around the world.  A woman in the Philippines can raise piglets into hogs and support her family with the income received, while a woman in El Salvador can use a farm hen and chicks for eggs to eat, sell and chicks to grow a flock.

  • Second trimester offerings are going to support Camp CILCA.

  • We gathered donatations to support a local family whose father was undergoing treatments for lung cancer.

In addition to monetary forms of service, students are encouraged to seek out needs and find ways to help.  Service projects are encouraged.

If you know of a local family or organization in need, we welcome ideas of places and people we can support with our offerings!

Vision Statement

St. James Lutheran School strives to provide a Word-based, Christ-centered, and Grace-filled Lutheran education so that students and their families can grow in their relationship with Jesus Christ. Students will be educated in all dimensions of life: spiritual, academic, emotional, social, and physical.

We pride ourselves in providing a quality education that is distinctively centered on Christ. In an age where traditional values and norms are constantly being questioned, we aim to provide a solid, Christian foundation for our students. Our students will grow in the knowledge of math, science, and the arts, and they will also grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ.

If you'd like to learn more about our school, please contact us and we'd be happy to set up a tour of our school and answer any questions you might have concerning any aspects of our school. We'd love for your son or daughter to become a St. James Eagle and join our long heritage of alumni - prepared to serve both God and neighbor in whatever field God will call them to!
